November 27, 2018 - Rich, opulent Bobal wine (100 percent), an indigenous grape variety to the area Utiel-Requena (Comunitat Valenciana). It is made from vines between 45 and 70 years old, grown on the limestone soils of the Terrerazo winery at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level (organic viticulture). The wine was aged for 21 months in French oak barrels. Decanted: one hour prior to tasting. Deep, intense cherry-red color and an expressive nose of black forest fruit, licorice, roasted coffee and noticeable oak tones (not fully integrated yet). The full-bodied palate is marked by overripe plum and bramble fruit, a silky texture, a well-balanced acidity and still quite dominant tannins. Lingering aftertaste. Already drinking nicely now, but I think this wine needs a few more years of maturing to really come around.

June 10, 2017 - ripe dark fruit on the nose
Dark fruit, very rich, with vanilla and nutty notes
Big wine, like a polished Ribera del Duero, can't quite believe this is Bobal
    Big and refined

February 18, 2017 - Not sure if I've ever tried the Bobal grape before but a sommelier gave me this botle as a 'must try' after he understood how much I liked El Nido's Clio and agreeing how under appreciated Monastarell is.

The nose on this takes a while to open and aerate its initial closed fustiness, like it's been locked in a closet too long. The visual offers a fine translucent consistent ruby suggesting a fresh spring or early summertime drinker which indeed it is. Think English red roses initially before some drying tannins arrive after a 30 minute breather.

There really is a dichotomy here. Initially I'm thinking watery saline rose petals for the front palate appetiser but then juxtaposed by a drying cloying gripping back side palate main course which makes you reach for a glass of water.

July 2, 2016 - Spanish Mixed Bag, Summer of 2016; 7/2/2016-7/15/2016: Terrific vino de pago from Valencia. Organic. 100% Bobal. 14.5 %. Intense raspberry and cherry fruit of wonderful purity. Real energy. A fair dose of new oak, lots of roasted coffee bean at first, but then striking a harmonious balance. Has a nice lightness of touch, with well integrated acidity, while retaining a nice plumpness in the mouth. Not cheap, but worth buying again. € 22,95.

April 6, 2016 - Grandes Pagos Tasting (Oyamel - Washington, DC): Smells sweet and rich on the nose, lots of dark plums, but there's some elegance to the aromas, as well as soil, leaves, anise and coffee notes. Fleshy but so bright on the palate with a dusty tannic structure. Tart berries, crunchy red fruit, topped in coffee, anise and floral tea and wet leaves. The wood isn't subtle (some definite oak and vanilla) but the wine is balanced and stays fresh. 100% Bobal aged 21 months in French oak. This received its Vino de Pago in 2009.
