    May 25, 2020 - Light golden hue; nose of lemon curd, ginger and a wisp on honey. i love the mouthfeel of caressing touch and good acidity. This was a big hit with grilled salmon w/ chipotle sauce.

    May 8, 2020 - Vouvray - A Wine by Any Other Name is Not the Same

    Even for someone like me who is S.I.P. (it’s getting to mean stranded in purgatory), a good thing has come from being at home most of the time, I have “upped my game” so to speak when it comes to cooking. I’ve gotten very creative in putting things together. I had been doing some of that already, but I usually went out and bought what I needed to make a pre-arranged dinner instead of throwing things together from whatever I had. A slight difference, but one that has fostered that inventiveness.

    That has prompted a similar issue when I think about pairing wines with some of these “inspired” dinners. Such that it brought about this particular dinner with a very particular wine:

    Domaine Huet Vouvray Demi-Sec Le Haut-Lieu 2015

    From a premier Vouvray winery making wines made exclusively from Chenin Blanc and located on the right bank of the Loire River near the city of Tours, with three important single vineyard holdings: Le Haut Lieu, Clos du Bourg, and Le Mont, Dm. Huet is meticulous in its production of the various styles. Never chaptalized; they allow nature to run its course and a decision is then made on when to stop fermentation based on the sweetness level desired for each style of wine; that fermentation carried out in both stainless and oak and allowing no malolactic conversion to take place.

    The wine itself was magnificent! Starting with the golden hue of the wine, followed by baked fruit, ginger, and nuttiness on the nose, you are then astounded by a mid-weight palate consisting of citrus, baked apple, and minerality leading to a mouth-coating and bright finish. Considered a Demi-Sec, at 13% alcohol, the wine doesn’t carry much residual sugar, only the fruit notes.

    Always one to tout my culinary expertise, the Spaghetti with Shrimp and Broccoli in a homemade Alfredo Sauce (a little heat to pump things up and to be offset by the wine), was fabulous.

    If you love Chenin Blanc, Domaine Huet should be on your radar (that’s a throwback from my Navy days as a Radarman). The difficult part is deciding which one of their many wines to choose! Never fear, they all have received Excellent to Outstanding ratings.

    May 4, 2020 - I want to like this wine more, but it is a little reductive on the palate. It does have nice citrus fruit, some pear and spice, plus good minerality and a little bit of residual sweetness.

    March 20, 2020 - sucres :21 g/l et acidité : 5,2 g/l

    Face à la morosité ambiante, vive la vinothérapie et haut les cœurs !

    Robe : jaune, vive, brillante
    Nez: 1er nez sur le citron, puis les marqueurs de chenin se font jour, le coing et la pomme au four. Puis le coing. C’est vraiment très agréable.
    En bouche : on retrouve cette astringence comme lorsque l’on croque dans en coing justement. C’est long en bouche, salivant. Et toujours cet équilibre millimétré avec cette belle persistance aromatique qui nous donne du plaisir.

    November 15, 2019 - Stunningly delicious. Beautiful fruit with depth and character. Nice nose. No flaws, just great purity.

    July 6, 2019 - Fourth of July Weekend (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Light gold color. 2 oz pour over 30 minutes. Love these Huet's. This bottle in particular has so much going on, rich and complex with ever evolving layers coming forward. A rich golden fruit nose with a tropical edge, very wooly, butterbraid, fuzzy minerality, chamomile, mulled spices, great minerality. Love it. 92+ to 93pts.
