November 6, 2023 - A very exciting experience, I had been looking forward to trying my first ever Grand Vin of Chateau Pavie for some time now.

Blend: 60% Merlot, 22% Cab Franc, 18% Cab.
    Oak: 80% New French oak.
    Preparation: Decanted 30 mins, then bottle-breathed for 2.5 hours. 17-18 C air-conditioned room temperature.
Appearance: Pitch black and certainly opaque.
Nose: Intense black fruits, plums and sweetness. Hint of smoke made this even more intriguing.
Palate: Such a juicy palate. Minerality developed after about 30 minutes, I wish I had another pour.
Mouthfeel: Dense and rich, great concentration. Luscious!
    Tannins: Very fine.
    Acidity: Medium, such fineness too.
Finish: Long, very long. I clocked this at circa 1 minute. Some dark chocolate too.

Having this alongside the "black label" 2012, at least half our Vivino group at the dinner thought the 2012 was initially better, but then quickly surpassed by the 2015. I disagreed, this 2015 was strong out the gate, and the far superior vintage with its richness, intensity and yet well balanced.

    Vintage report: 2015
Decanter's Steven Spurrier described the 2015 vintage as a very modern Bordeaux vintage. ‘It’s not like Bordeaux 10 years ago, when tannins could be hard as nails. In 2015, the fruit dominates the tannins and the acidity.’

2015 was extremely warm and had a dry growing season which favored the Right Bank's clay and limestone soils.

This was.. the show-stopper. The grand vin finally made its appearance, as we enjoyed the next Mandarin Grill (Mandarin Oriental KL) course of Wagyu Marble 8 with delicious Polenta.

Chateau Pavie dinner, organised by Milawa and hosted by Olivier Gailly (Commercial Dir). Joined by brother WMK who had actually enjoyed the hospitality at Chateau Pavie having the 2012 vintage back in 2018!

May 25, 2023 - Gorgeously fragrant of bramble fruits, violets, tobacco, chocolate and cigar box aromas. It is incredibly good young wine, so smooth, so balanced, so rounded, so deep, so pure, velvet texture, silky tannins, impressive length. This is an opulent, concentrated, delicate wine, drinking so deliciously today and it can only get better from now. Just stunning.

March 6, 2021 - The intensity of the aroma on this wine is something I don't think I've ever quite experienced before. The fruit on this was so deep, rich, and seductive that it really forces you to pause for a moment, and anticipate what's about to come on the palate. Which of course, is divine. Just incredibly forward with a balance of silky red & black fruit along with earth, yet holds a little something back to ensure you make a return visit in several years.

January 22, 2019 - Impressive!!!! Bravo !!!!! Drinking this beauty while hearing Keith Jarret famous Kohln concert. I mean, this is pure hedonism that I don´t know how it could be better. Inky monster of pleasure that coats all your mouth without any restraint. I have never tasted $1,000+ wines but I don´t see how this can be beat. While maybe the Petrus and all the first growths are like the Himalaya, Pavie is the K2...more interesting, dangerous, foreward, and intoxicating. I wish I could buy 50 cases and drink this until I die.
