Community Tasting Notes 5

September 9, 2021 - BLIND REDS - Bordeaux varietals (mostly Napa and BDX) - Over/Under $100: Plum and booze rush up the front end of the palate before they are consumed by a bitter green note that squashes the expansion of flavor. With air, this becomes a bit more affable, but it still remains a little prickly in its delivery. Not sure where this wine is headed; holding a couple of years might be best, but I fear the fruit will continue to fade. Drink now with some measured aeration or hold for a bit (but I wouldn’t be cellaring these for too long).

September 6, 2021 - The high alcohol level on this one leads to it taking a long time to open up. We were struggling on picki by up a whole lot on the palate even after an hour decant. It did end up opening to some nice dark fruit on the nose like black raspberry. Similar notes on the palate. Still a fair bit of acid and tannin. May need a bit longer in bottle.

February 16, 2021 - Outstanding. Drink up. Recommend 1 hr decant. Drank over 3 hours. Dark fruit medium finish. Think this is ready. Not sure it would benefit from any more age.

November 4, 2017 - Napa/Sonoma Trip With Some Exceptional Gems; 11/1/2017-11/5/2017 (1800ft Up Cavedale Road, Glen Ellen, CA): Tasted at the winery. CS100 old vines, 10% new French oak. This is an excellent young Monte Rosso with beautiful dried earth, pepper, dark fruit, tobacco and medium body. Love this stylistically.
