April 12, 2019 - Very nice. Black and red fruit, softening up, modest but sufficient acidity. Losing some of the baby fat and firming up nicely. Down to the last bottle and wishing I had more...

March 23, 2019 - I have not loved all the 2014s as they've aged, but I absolutely love this wine. While some have come loose and lost steam, this has integrated beautifully and gained an extra level of depth. As with most Carters, it's not just the fruit that's out front: it's the tannin, acidity, even earthy elements, which combine to make this awfully delicious.

Dark red in color and full in body, nose of blackberry, black cherry, espresso, and cedar, with a hint of fresh flowers. Tastes of blueberry, cocoa powder, leather, and gravel, with a sweet and lingering finish. 14.9% alcohol. Drink in next few years. These wines, though modern, are incredibly balanced - and oh so delicious.

February 8, 2019 - 2017 Carter tasting + other Carters (Carter Cellars (Envy Wines) - Calistoga): Darker and a bit more powerful than the 2014 Grand Daddy served beside it, this version of the Kings impresses with its black and purple berry, licorice, and cassis core. Rich but amazingly focused, with the heavy push of flavor served well by a backing of intense speed and oomph. The chewy black licorice note repeats on the tail, making for a continuation of the momentum and an elongation of the finish. Still worth holding for another year in bottle to heighten its flow even further. 95-96+ points.

January 12, 2019 - Decanted for 1.5 hours, rebottled for ride & reopened 1.5 hours later, drank over another 1.5 hours. Smooth & delicious. Big fruit but balanced with smooth tannins. Enjoyable now with a long decant.
