April 1, 2023 - Best bottle yet, should drink well to 2034. One half bottle was decanted and served two hours later: 90+. The rest of the bottle was refrigerated as is, without being put into an airfree container and without decanting. Served on night two, this was 92, and a joy. With age this (L280616) has become darker, heftier and earthier. It shows sweet and sour cherry and cranberry, with a mild spiciness and earthiness. Whiffs of leather. It has a firm structure, with excellent, lip-smacking acidity and integrated tannins, a hint of sweetness on the mid-palate, and a long mineral finish. In its first few years this wine had tremendous cut and precision, big acidity, and hints of ethereal aromas. Now, in middle-age, it is fuller and smoother. Amazing quality for a difficult year. Outstanding QPR.

March 12, 2022 - Another great bottle of this super-value Chianti. This (L280616) is a hi-toned chianti with red fruit aromas and flavors (notably raspebbery and cranberry), a big acid backbone, only 13% ABV, and a very precise, sappy mouth feel and finish. Definitely a food wine, not for cocktails, reflecting the austere 2014 vintage. Many, many more years ahead of this. Outstanding QPR.

August 10, 2021 - All of the characteristics are there in this bottle, as I described in my previous note from this wine five months ago, but I drop my rating two points. This bottle tasted disjointed to me over two nights. Mori has truly excelled in some recent vintages (‘13, ‘18) and he was far above average in ‘14, yet the inherent limits of the vintage seem to be catching up to this wine, at least for this bottle.

April 8, 2021 - My previous bottle was six months ago, and the wine ia perhaps even better now. Decanted two hours before serving, it (L280616) was nicely fragrant and invitingly complex for a wine at this price point. It is very aromatic, with sweet and sour cherry, rhubarb, cranberry and white pepper enveloped by freshly-tanned saddle leather. The wine is earthier than the previous bottle. It has an excellent, lip-smacking acid backbone, gentle tannins, a hint of sweetness on the mid-palate, and a long mineral finish. In its first few years this wine was ethereal and had tremendous cut and precision. Now it is dominated by its big aromatics, firm acidity and lovely smoothness. Outstanding outcome in a difficult 2014, and an outstanding QPR.

October 23, 2020 - Decanted one hour before serving, it was fully open at two hours. Since my last bottle ten months ago the wine remains delicious, and has evolved a bit. Like that bottle, this has a very big aromatic profile, with sweet and sour cherry, rhubarb, cranberry and white pepper enveloped by freshly-tanned saddle leather. It has an excellent acid backbone, gentle tannins, a hint of sweetness on the mid-palate, and a long mineral finish. In its first few years this wine was ethereal and had tremendous cut and precision. Now it is dominated by its big aromatics, firm acidity and lovely smoothness. Outstanding QPR.
