June 8, 2020 - While dark and brooding still, this shows more definition/focus than the 1997 Cote de Beaune (a similar library release chez Leroy). Dark, black cherry mixed with forest herbs; briary scents, violet spice, licorice, peppercorn aromas with a lavender note (almost Northern Rhone impression at first) and a graphite minerality that also comes through the palate and provides lift in an otherwise ripe, heavy vintage. Good acidity but the tannins are a bit drying/robust for drinking today. Try again in 5 years? 8 years? Certainly more drinkable and pleasurable than other Maison Leroy library releases. 91.

June 8, 2020 - I found this wine to be quite puzzling as it was unyielding with brooding black fruit ripeness, soil-inflected, dark chocolate. Only when some lavender and violets emerged could I even consider this to be burgundy (it first struck me as Syrah). Ripe and thickly textured. Nice to have tried it but it was like an NFL lineman trying to dance ballet.

May 28, 2019 - Decent nose of light fruit and probably rose pedals. Good flavour initially, started to fade on the mid-palate and then disappeared on the finish. Think it is is overpriced

December 19, 2017 - Was closed at first. Much more approachable after 45mins of decanting. Super smooth on the palate

March 13, 2017 - Sweet airy touch of honeycomb and salted popcorn, usually a sign that it's approaching its maturity and inevitably its decline; subtle lemon zest toast and cherry, more as secondary flavors to autumn fruit tar coffee, again pointing to age setting in. Second day all much the same but elegant and smooth with pink rose and gorgeous weightlessness. A yummy bottle savoured with good friends.
