February 4, 2020 - Lots of funk on palate. Give it a solid hour decant. Definitely a wine that needs to be paired with cheese or food and NOT drank on its own.

January 23, 2020 - Deep red and opaque, with black center. On the nose and palate was smoke, black fruit, flowers, and licorice. Extremely rich, without being too dense. Nicely balanced structure with ample acidity and very fine tannins.

Very enjoyable bottle that in no way resembles any other Sangiovese I've ever had. Appearance, flavor, and mouthfeel all indicate a SuperTuscan or other Bordeaux blend. My guess is that it is a blend.

Whatever it is, it's very high quality and a pleasure to drink. But it would be nice to know what varietals were used. Anyone know ?

August 18, 2019 - This bottle was a little more savory and better for it. Cassis, cedar, amber, tar, leather and vanilla. Noticeable acidity paired great with rigatoni ragu.

June 1, 2019 - Nice dark color, cassis, black cherry, leather, hint of cedar and fresh vanilla. Good lift and solid structure. Elegant and sophisticated but with good concentration and power.

(Podere Poggio Scalette Il Carbonaione Alta Valle della Greve IGT) Saturated, very dark red violet color; aromatic, dried cherry, chocolate, mocha nose; tight, intense, dried cherry, mocha, dried currant, graphite palate with firm tannins and good balancing acidity; needs 5-plus years; long finish
