July 28, 2021 - A standout from the Sanford and Benedict Vineyard in Sta Rita, this wine sings of its place. The winemaker was a member of In Pursuit of Balance and this style shows in this wine. Dark intense ruby color with strong red and blue fruit, earth and cola aromas and flavors, the wine maintains its wonderful balance with striking acidity and just enough tannin to provide a frame for the fruit. The flavors develop even in the mouth and take on savory notes with a very long and delicious finish. Lutum makes wine from many of the great PN sites, Gap's Crown, Bien Nacido, Durrell, Rinconanda- I would like to try all of them.

    June 12, 2021 - This was a perfect bottle in June 2021

Drank with joe and Jane who don’t like wine and they raved

June 11, 2021 - Darker fruited for a pinot. Some earth. Some funk. Seems to be in the drinking window, but not near the end. Good wine, but I did not like as much as I have liked Lutum pinots from other vineyards.

March 7, 2021 - This is very pleasant and in a good spot. Medium red / crimson color, with just a slight touch of light brown on the edge.

Nose is very red fruit based, but there is definitely some nice complexity there. Black cherries, black raspberry, tea, pomegranate propagate the nose. Palate is similar with a bit of complexity and also some earthy and cola notes. Body is medium - a bit heavier than I’d expect at 13.88% abv, and acid is a bit lighter than I’d have expected. Although there is a good long finish, the limited acidity leaves the wine ever so slightly off balance. Minimal tannins.

I’d guess 7-10 years of life left if not more, but definitely drinking well now.

December 23, 2020 - Dried strawberry, some tartness. Quite good, but I didn't enjoy as much as the Rinconada bottling.
