June 17, 2006 - France Trip Part 1 - Châteauneuf-du-Pape; 6/16/2006-6/17/2006: Dinner @ Le Grand Pre, Roaix. Same bottle as Vinsanity. Oh my goodness, this was a fabulous wine. Amazing minerality, complexity, and elegance. Red fruits, forest floor, and meat. Super-long finish. Fully mature. Fantastic, and even better than the 1989 that we opened previously.

June 17, 2006 - Following a terrific 1989 Cuvee Florence (see TN), the '85 was a real show-stopper. Slightly reluctant rose at first had a couple folks wishing we had gone with another bottle of the '89 instead, but it soon unlocked and opened up to reveal a deep core of dark cherry liquor, earth and game. Impressive minerality, focus, and refinement. Very traditionally styled. At 20+ years old, this Gigondas still seems like it could go another 10+. Really, really impressive.
