October 13, 2016 - A blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Incrozio Manzoni and Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo). Aged for 8 months in barriques (50% new, 50% used).

Pale lime green color. Quite rich, fragrant and creamy nose with aromas of perfumed oaky tones and sweet, toasty spice, a little bit of pineapple, a hint of slivered almonds and a touch of red apples. The wine is medium-bodied, but also quite rich and oily on the palate with bright, stony minerality, ripe citrus fruits, some toasty oak spice, a little bit of nutty complexity, a hint of smoky character and a touch of tart green apples. The high acidity makes the wine feel bright, structured and nicely balanced. The finish is lively, crisp and somewhat creamy with quite persistent flavors of stony minerality, tart lemon-driven citrus fruit tones, some toasty oak character, a little bit of sweeter pineapple and a hint of passion fruit.

A surprisingly harmonious and well-made Lombardian white that appears less oaky and more harmonious than what I expected for a wine that sees so much new oak. Sure, the oak is there, but the wine shows much less oak influence than I was prepared for and both the freshness of the fruit and the structured acidity carry the oak character with easy - and not sticking out badly, which is always a risk when combining high-acid varieties with new oak. This wine was definitely a positive surprise and it seems to show good aging potential: I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be beautifully Burgundian by the age of 10. Priced according to its quality at 24,99€.
