September 5, 2019 - Ruby red in color. 14.5% ABV. Stunning nose of red fruits, roasted herbs and wet asphalt. Medium body with strong acidity. Somewhat lean and austere with a cloak of drying tannins. Strawberry, kirsch, garrigue and herbes de Provence on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. This is a big, masculine wine that is a perfect reflection of the acclaimed 2005 vintage. Delicious and decidedly rustic. Best over the next 2-4 years.

August 11, 2019 - Nice color in the glass - pigment starting to show. A little reductive on the nose with black cherries, plums, licorice, smoke, and some candied red flowers. Oak shows - also some animality. Mint, black tea. The alcohol is too high, though.

August 9, 2019 - Ruby/garnet. Ripe fruit and tobacco aromas. Sappy medium weight. Raspberry fruit, bark, and brown spice-seems like a happy blend of Grenache and Mourvedre components. Good remaining round tannins. Another excellent bottle of this with a satisfying amount of old time Chateauneuf savory character to balance the sweet fruit.

June 15, 2019 - Light ruby with lighter rim. Licorice and blond tobacco. Medium weight, perfect level of ripeness without heat or heaviness, complex flavors enlivened by bark and garrigue. Solid remaining tannins that do not prevent current enjoyment. Classic, excellent, slowly evolving Chateauneuf that is still in its ascent.

June 11, 2019 - Enjoyed with lamb loin chops. Purchased on release, followed over several hours at home. The wine is certainly approachable now, still a bit big and some heat on the palate. Things did settle down after an hour or so. No need to worry if the 05 can be enjoyed now, but for me it's not where I want it to be yet and will make a note to revisit in 2021-2022.
