July 25, 2020 - Pull from 13C cellar and let stand for a couple of weeks in approximately 18C basement and served at this temperature. Dark fruit-forward, blackberry, jammy, raisiny. Not as complex as expected for a wine in this price range. Light tannins, short-to-medium finish. Nice wine but not great. I don't think the structure is there to last much longer, drink now and within next 5 years.

July 5, 2020 - passively cellared since purchase at retail in 2009.

Its a big wine and, for me, the alcohol kinda dominates. I used some in a coq au vin and we drank the rest w dinner. It was alright, but it just seemed a bit "brutish". The vintage might be the problem.

June 25, 2020 - Big thick Rhone red....also slightly corked, but still enjoyable enough to continue drinking with beef brisket. TCA has met it's match. Draw awarded and both sides are scored 1 point.

January 8, 2020 - Flop. Big disappointment of a bottle.
Lunch at New Ubin CHIJMES. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Drank over 2 hours. Re-tasted on 2nd day - only marginally improved.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, garnet colour. Legs.
Nose medium intensity, with aromas of funk, alcohol fumes, earth, green + black olives. Developed.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, high alcohol (15.5%), fine high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of raisinated fruit, cherry jam, black cherries, blackberries, stewed plums, kirsch, garrigue, spice. Long finish.
Full of ambition. Though definitely not a style I can appreciate. Feels unbalanced. Let's dispense with the gory details. Enough of this...

(Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Chaupin) This cuvée is 100% Grenache and comes from a single vineyard which Isabelle Sabon describes as having colder soils which do better in warmer vintages. The nose has the scent of charred and smoky wood, charcoal even, with a sweet, raisined and pruney style of fruit. A big sweet and creamy texture, with liquorice and cough mixture alongside the baked fruit. This doesn't appeal to me.

(Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chaupin) Nice cherry, plum and pepper nose; very tasty ripe cherry, berry, with good sap, depth, and sage notes; long finish 96+ pts.
