February 16, 2019 - Crimson in color. 14.5% ABV. 85% Grenache and then 5% each of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Vaccarese. Brilliant nose of red fruits, kirsch, flowers and wet pavement. Full bodied with exceptional acidity. Fresh and impeccably balanced. The purity of the fruit is notable. Cherries, blood, garrigue and plums on the palate. Tremendous length and power on the finish. An old school producer who made a remarkable, age worthy wine in a great vintage. Best over the next 4-6 years.

February 12, 2019 - Very clear light ruby color. Pure and focused bright red fruit, buffered by a savory background. Drinking very well; the only nit is the relatively high, warm-year alcohol.

October 28, 2018 - I've only tried Charvin in the less bombastic 2008 vintage, where I liked its lighter touch with red fruits and grace. This 2005 I've sat on for a while and judging from its nose, it will be a heftier wine -- it gives scents of tar, blood and iron. After some 20 minutes of glass aeration, it seems to be opening up with musky incense alongside the tar and dark, intangible fruit. On the palate, thankfully, this isn't overly stewed; through the fruit is hard to place. It's a powerful, somewhat spicy wine with a lot of traction in the mouth; sleek on entry, full and wide in the center, and very herbal, gripping, and tar-filled on the spicy finish. The alcohol is in check. I believe now is the time to drink this wine before any more of the fruit fades out. This is a quality CdP.

July 30, 2018 - Decanted 1 hr, tasted over 2 hrs, bottle from secondary market
    -ruddy red moderate bricking
-kirsch some mature elements warm earthy cherry
-med acidity, med/med+ weight good depth faded red fruit kirsch garrigue earth, med/med- tannins and long but slightly hot/bitter finish
-this bottle is better than the last one and early on its mature plateau that should last many more years, this ripe robust and hot vintage is not one of my favorites chez Charvin but these features are not as pronounced as 2007
