November 1, 2023 - Tasted at Don Melchor vertical dinner with Enrique Tirado. Super minerally and savoury on the nose. Beautiful texture and length. Of the six vintages tasted tonight (88/92/06/14/20/21), I think this is my favourite. Seems to be in a great spot. Recognizably Chilean, with restraint and elegance.
May 29, 2023 - After a two hour decant, this wine still appeared to be tight. Tilled soil, wet tobacco, dark fruit and a touch of pyrazine on the finish. As the wine unfurled in the glass, it opened up nicely. Spring flowers accented the dark fruit and tobacco notes. A classic i case of opening the bottle too young. Great juice with another five to seven years in the cellar.
April 22, 2023 - Dark fruit, charcoal, tree bark and well integrated wood. Bold yet elegant. This wine has a long life ahead of it. Layered and exciting. Good juice.
February 16, 2023 - 成熟甘甜的桑葚、蓝莓果味，香草、甘草和奶油巧克力的香气。前期果味和酸度被含量丰富的单宁压制，整体风格浓郁而紧实。随着醒酒，丝丝酸度从逐渐柔化的单宁包围中透出，带来更好的平衡感。香气入口的集中度不及其变化性，所以到后期又回归了沉默寡言的状态，让人莫名想起《黑爵士IV》里的台词，“我们要深沉，假装胸有成竹，免得被人看穿。”
December 24, 2022 - Maybe a little young. Spicy, big. Not sure if style changed but last vintage I had was more subtle if my recollection is correct.
November 27, 2022 - Dark fruit, wild herbs, tilled soil and an almost limestone influence. Great depth and texture. I love the contained strength in this wine. Powerful, yes, but done so that holds you softly. The Cabernet Franc adds a nice touch to the aromatics. Just entering a good drinking window. Great juice.
November 4, 2022 - Short decant of this little gem and it opened beautifully. Nose of blue and black fruit: cherries, plums, blackberries, cola, violet with hints of tobacco and anise. Palate is suave with full body burst of black fruit and bold but smooth tannins with very long finish. Excellent QPR, delicious now and will keep for many years. I wish i had more of these
January 22, 2022 - Deep Ruby. Let it breathe for at least 3 hours in the glass. Then, it just sings. Leather, tobacco, dark chocolate, blueberries and a touch of violet on the nose. On the palate, it is even better. Smooth and silky, very elegant. Fine grained tannins. Medium acidity, medium to full-bodied. . Really juicy and sweet finish but also short to medium. I wish it would have a longer finish.
November 6, 2021 - Dark, perfumed, blue-black fruit, into a wide, fine-grained tannic streak, with sandlewood and cigar box. Expressive, open-knitted, and fabulously unlike any Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa. Young, energetic, and benefits greatly from several hours of air. Don Melchor has a distinctive tannic complexity best understood with food.
August 16, 2021 - 5 hour decant and I don't know if that was enough. Still mildly tannic in a very nice way. Dark fruit with what I would describe as a violet streak going thru it. Definitely could use some more cellar time. One of my favorite cabs and a relative bargain compared to what you would have to pay for a napa cab of this quality. Highly recommend
