December 14, 2019 - Bordeaux Reds [3-'15s, & 3-'16s] (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): "The vyds, comprised of 40% C.S. & 60% Merlot, with an ave age of 40 yrs, cover 8.3 ha & surround those of Chateau Calon-Segur. They rest on the ridges & plateaus of Saint-Estephe’s well-draining soil, composed of clay & limestone." Typically, "Hand picked with winemaking done in traditional Bordeaux style, in s/s & thermo-regulated vats. Fermentation on skins for 19-23 days, ff'd by aging in oak barrels for 12 mos (25% new)."
N: CLOSED; Earth & RIPE berries? Intensity lurking?
P: Med, poss LM, body; Rndish entry with NICE, almost swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which stays within hailing distance of the init frt as it morphs into a LONG, BALANCED finish with a tangy/swtness to the DUSTY tannins. NEEDS through '22, then drinking through '26. My EXC-, arguably higher for QPR. 93 pts Suckling & 16.5+/20 Jancis Robinson. [This vendor's $26.95 is now $5 < the lower of wine-searcher's 2 postings.]
Note: Also tasted on 6/8, 8/3, & 9/14/19, today’s note being most like that of 9/14, at least with respect to the wine’s structure. -

September 14, 2019 - Bordeaux Reds [2-'15s, & 4-'16s] (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): "The vyds, comprised of 40% C.S. & 60% Merlot, with an ave age of 40 yrs, cover 8.3 ha & surround those of Chateau Calon-Segur. N: Slightly closed; Pyrazines SLIGHTLY atop earth with undertones of vanilla & ripe berries
P: LM body; Rndish entry with NICE, almost swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which transitions into a LONG, balanced finish with hints of a discrete swtness to the dusty tannins. NEEDS through '23, I'm guessing, & IF the frt holds, approaching its 15th. A potential steal, my EXC-/EXC quite possibly EVENTUALLY being low. 93 pts Suckling & 16.5+/20 Jancis Robinson. [This vendor's $26.95 is $3 < wine-searcher's only other current listing.]
Note: Also tasted on 6/8 & 8/3/19, both those being VERY different in that I did not even REMOTELY pick up on the tannins/structure I noted today :( , although at least today I’m in synch with the 2 pro reviews I’ve cited. -

August 3, 2019 - Winebar [4 Whites, 8 Reds, & 4 *shared* bottles] from 08/02/19 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): "The vyds, comprised of 40% C.S. & 60% Merlot, with an ave age of 40 yrs, cover 8.3 ha & surround those of Chateau Calon-Segur. N: Closed, but vanilla, poss earth, atop ripe berries? Intensity lurking?
P: Med body; RNDISH entry with NICE, almost swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which, while staying within hailing distance of the init frt, QUITE works itself out by the LONG, BALANCED finish with a pleasant tangy/swtness to the FEW, quite unoffensive, barely firming tannins. For now & into, poss through, '21. My VG+/EXC- in a drink now style. 93 pts Suckling & 16.5+/20 Jancis Robinson. [This vendor's $26.95 is $3 < wine-searcher's only other current listing.]
Addendum: Be SURE to read my TN of 9/14/2019 re today's [apparently] HIDDEN structure! -

June 8, 2019 - Winebar [4 Whites, 8 Reds, & 4 *shared* bottles] from 06/07/19] (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): "The vyds, comprised of 40% C.S. & 60% Merlot, with an ave age of 40 yrs, cover 8.3 ha & surround those of Chateau Calon-Segur. N: Clsd; Smoke atop ripe berries & earth with undertones of pyrazines; Intensity lurking?
P: Med body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt (approaching threshold R.S.?) met by a bit of astringent pucker which loses virtually ALL its bite by the LONG finish with a tangy/swtness to the dusty tannins & POSS a burgeoning quasi-bitter flatness? Deserves through '19, then drinking for 4 yrs more? My VG+/EXC-; 93 pts Suckling & 16.5+/20 Jancis Robinson. [This vendor's $26.95 is $3 < wine-searcher's only other current listing.]
Note: As both the "Pro" reviewers cited at least infer abundant tannins, PERHAPS today's said "structure" is being masked by the swt frt?
