March 22, 2024 - Very little visible age in the glass. Very funky nose, tobacco and wet leaves and cooked balsamic. Fortunately, there is a big disconnect between the nose and the palate which to me features cherry, strawberry with a touch of smokiness. Good wine with a Margherita pizza on a Friday night.

August 16, 2022 - Pulled the cork on this one after craving some open for business Brunello. Upon trying it right after opening it, rather peculiar. Not invigorating nor superstar reflective of the vintage. Then let it sit in a decanter for about an hour- after which a massively intense nose of peppermint, vapor rub and sarsaparilla peeked through. An oddity, but not unwelcome. The tannins have fully integrated and the acidity is supple. We followed this for about 3 hours and by the third hour, it was getting rather sharp and not in a good way. For the sake of experimentation I tried some the following morning and it was gone, but ‘twas a ghost of what it was the night prior. I would easily pin this as a modern producer, and not entirely sure as to how this will develop further. I’m planning on drinking the rest of these by 2024. Rockstar vintage, just not a producer I’d wager to make it to its 15th year myself.

June 9, 2022 - Decanted two hours. Slightly inky ruby, hint of rust on the rim. Nose of wet earth, plum, pine. Sweet, fresh red fruit on the palate, ripe strawberry and cherry, with a whisper of old leather. Long, warm finish, with a few balanced, silty tannins. Terralsole makes my favorite modern styled Brunello, exceptionally consistent from vintage to vintage. As is typical for this house, pretty open for a riserva, and tastes quite similar to the normale, although I did get the impression this may stay at peak for a few years beyond the normale. Outstanding, as always. Drink or hold through 2027.

December 26, 2019 - a 2008 livio sassetti was corked so pulled this one from deep in the cellar
early in a nice drinking window
    delicious blueberries and rose petals
    gentle yet powerful
glad to have a couple more bottles to see how this develops
