April 27, 2024 - PNP. Deep black cherry, soil and licorice on the nose. Young and tightly wound palate, sappy with lots of fine grained tannins but delivered in a sorbet like fruit infused package. Blind I would have guessed 2015 for the vintage.

January 18, 2024 - Perhaps the best Chevillon wine I've had, and I've had several over the years. This was quite rich without being "over the top". Besides the very pleasant dark red fruit and sous bois notes both in the bouquet and flavors, the finish was long and quite refined for this appellation and the producer's normally rustic style. Getting quite brown on the edges and has noticeable sediment, as to be expected. Drinking very well right now, but might hold for another 3-4 years or so. It very nicely paired with seared rare skirt steak with caramelized shallots and red wine sauce. Nice stuff and wish I had another bottle!

November 14, 2021 - Really singing when first opened -- rich, full, complex, long. After 1 hour the wine began to decline. Suspect this is fully mature and should be had sooner than later.

December 31, 2020 - Dark cherry, spices (like cinnamon) and sous bois on the nose. This is surprisingly dense and concentrated. Palate with lots of red fruit, leather, balsamic vinegar and a hint of medicinal, bitter herbs. Unusual, but really good.

May 24, 2019 - Initially a closed nose with some wood and cork notes. Used some cellofan and it became better. Day 2 and balance and nose better/fine.

Not very burgundy in style. Iron like in medoc, balsamic, acidic and a lot of wood giving it a dry and not very friendly taste. With food and more years in bottle it would be more tasty. Medium long.

August 24, 2018 - Drinking nicely but definitely give it a decant. First bottle I had in early 2016 tasted super dark and extracted, like well made new world (reminded me of Kosta Browne). This is totally different and reminds me most of Barolo. Balsamic notes, ripe cherry and some earth with an underlying acidity that pierces through. Alcohol still feels elevated and a bit unbalanced but this has leaned out over the last couple years and become quite a good bottle. I would say elegant in a 10 year old Barolo way but not in a Chevillon/Burgundy way -- both are styles I love but this doesn't scream Burgundy to me.

That being said, very good bottle and not nearly as extracted as the notes here (and my first tasting) would make you think. Definitely decant for at least an hour. Based on the good acidity I would say this has a long life ahead of it -- if I had another bottle I would wait another 4-5 years before opening.

July 1, 2018 - Soft, and fully ready to drink. Great shoe polish notes, and depth of ripe cherries. Stupendous.

August 2, 2017 - Finally open for business though with plenty of aging potential in front - very nice now, can hold at least 5-10 years. Good fruit, tannins fully integrated, iron comes through. Decent length. Balanced. Commenting on prior notes, no detectable oak (chevillon uses little new oak, around me 30%); and I couldn't think of anything farther from california. There is phenolic ripeness. But this is the opposite of a 'phenolic wine' - with wonderful balance, acidity, minerality, integrated tannins ...

September 6, 2015 - Deep deep inky dark, no signs of age, so intense and concentrated fruit it could have almost passed as a domestic California pinot (OK, a good one). Juicy inky rich and extracted. Minerality and decent acidity braces it but this seemed a bit un-Chevillon.
