Community Tasting Notes 13

November 3, 2023 - Still dark burgundy despite a significant sediment throw. Beautiful bouquet of forest floor. Deeply concentrated dark red fruits with plenty of fine tannin structure typical of the vintage. More savory than fruit forward. Definitely a foil for a rich fatty meal. Just starting to round out and shed the structure with plenty of years to go. A classic style NSG.

August 2, 2020 - Opened 2 hours prior. Smokey, notes of violets and black cherry, very smooth and velvety, with deep dark fruit coupled with fine tannins and nice acidity. Great now.

December 7, 2019 - Some Wine Tasted at the Zachys Auction (Formento's - Chicago IL): Served alongside the 2006. Both ripe and dense with both black and red cherry with rich spice. This 2005 was more powerful with more refined tannins, giving it more elegant textures. So tasty now, clearly with further upside.

December 7, 2019 - Wines tasted at Zachy's Chicago Watch Party (Formentos): Single blind and side-by-side with the 2006. Both wines are very similar with nicely ripe, spice-filled red and black cherry. The 2005 was just more dense and concentrated with a firm underlying structure. Can be enjoyed now but will be better in 5+ years.

December 7, 2019 - Zachys auction at Formento's (Chicago, IL): Served blind next to the 2006; I got the vintages wrong. I found this a little more drinkable with a slightly less forbidding structure and with more intense aromatics and freshness here. A little lifted and given the reveal, I was surprised at how accessible this wine seemed.
