May 30, 2021 - This is a great favourite of mine, and probably the best pre millennial vintage from the estate. It is fully mature but with a structure to stay at this level for a couple of decades or more. I am puzzled by a recent review stating this was over the hill, and I can only assume there was a storage problem. A little untypical of the top left bankers from 1986, it has a surprising freshness which gives an almost delicacy to the wine. The nose is deeply aromatic full of blackcurrant, plum, cedar, and leather. Secondary and tertiary notes are evident on the palate which has a good solid tannic spine but it is resolved and perfectly balanced. The finish is excellent and is in excess of 30 seconds, but does not quite live up to the rest of the experience. This still needs a couple of hours in the decanter to blow off any barnyard funk. 96+

April 10, 2021 - Still tannic but fruit/complexity faded. Over the hill.

April 4, 2021 - Big and generous shoulders on this lovely combo of black berry, eastern spice, chocolate and leather. It is drinking magically right now. Has another 35 years of legs. Magic

(Château Rausan-Ségla) Sexy, rich, vanilla and berry nose; big, lovely, still youthful berry palate; medium finish
