August 30, 2022 - Blackberries, vanilla, earth. Nice tannins and acidity. Pretty simple but enjoyable, opens up nicely after 45 mins or so.

April 17, 2022 - Big flavors of blackberry and other dark fruit as well as oak and vanilla on the nose. Weaker on the palate where it was quite thin. A lot better with food where it grows a lot on the palate and becomes rather enjoyable.

July 14, 2020 - Appearance: deep purple, violet highlights, light staining, medium+ tearing, no rim variation nor sediment.

Nose: clean, medium+ intensity, developing, ripe raspberry, black plum, black cherry, red currant, crushed gravel, black pepper, black licorice, violet, cedar, chocolate, vanilla bean, black cardamom, cigar box, leather.

Palate: dry, high acid, high tannin, medium+ alcohol (13.5%), full body, medium+ intensity, medium+ finish, ripe raspberry, black plum, black cherry, red currant, crushed gravel, black pepper, black licorice, violet, cedar, chocolate, vanilla bean, black cardamom, cigar box, leather, dried cherry, raspberry preserves.

Overall: This wine is very polished: it has lots of tannins, but they are rounded and silky; the fruit is ripe, but focused; the oak is clearly there, but not intrusive. It feels "new world" in many ways, but the refreshingly high acid and moderate alcohol keep the wine grounded and balanced. While not the most unique expression of Tannat's wild side, it is a very well made wine that will age superbly. A good value!
