November 7, 2022 - Bit of CO2 upon opening.
This is a typical Cannonau di Sardegna with notes of pepper and dried flowers. Rather generic. Wouldn't buy again. -

August 9, 2020 - Slightly less expressive than the bottle I had six months ago, this wine nevertheless is a highly extroverted, extracted crowd-pleaser. It has a dark core and a vivid rim, bursts with dark fruit aromas and flavors, and shows herbs, exotic spices, sweet floral hints, very good acidity, gentle tannins and a long, savory beetroot finish. The alcohol is noticeable only if it warms up too much in the glass. Outstanding QPR. Drink to 2023.

March 23, 2020 - The 2014 Mamuthone is explosive in every way. It has a deep, dark blood red color with vivid purple edges, and an immediate nose of sweet dark fruits, especially plums and blackberries. It is a deeply concentrated wine, with those sweet dark fruit flavors enhanced by licorice, violet, rosemary, black pepper and sweet exotic spices, supported by good acidity and gentle tannins. It has a long, bittersweet, beetroot finish. Outstanding QPR. Given how much this has evolved since the last bottle I suggest drinking up, good to 2023.

December 11, 2019 - Dark blood-red with bright edges. This has a nice fragrance profile of ripe plums, blueberries, and minerals, but it literally explodes on the palate with those same plums, blueberries and an intense, savory minerality, plus a vague and very pleasing Middle Eastern spiciness. It has excellent structure. Two hours after opening the smooth, firm tannins come out. And, in my experience its body is unusually smooth and balanced for a Cannonau, including the fact that no one at table believed its label showing 15% alcohol. Good QPR. Not as good on night two.

September 30, 2019 - Weekly tasting group RWP #346; Some random wines (@ JdB): Ripe red berries, garrigue and some chocolate in the bouquet. On the palate juicy and ripe red berries, good acidity and soft tannin.
