August 4, 2018 - Lots of reduction on opening, with rubber and matchsticks. This dissipates fairly quickly to reveal fine layers of quince, pear and honeysuckle. These impressions are reinforced on the palate, where the fruits are augmented by quartzy minerals and gently persistent acidity. There's no rush to drink this fine dry chenin.

February 26, 2018 - Dinner at Formento's (Chicago, IL): Always fun to see one of these now-rare R Leroy bottles. Nose is super saline with good, savory white fruit. The palate is has lots of acid and taut personality. Nice chewy white fruit provides balance. Good but didn't reach the heights of prior experiences with this producer.

February 26, 2018 - Dinner at Formento's with Michael (Chicago, IL): It has been a very long while since I've crossed paths with a bottle of this. The nose here is incredibly reductive, with just a slight hint of volatility (I was told there was more earlier but it fortunately had blown off). The palate is driven fully by acidity, with some bright yellow fruit as well. Indeed, there's even some reduction on the palate too. Though this wine strikes me as something cast from the hipster mold, it's certainly very much still to my taste.

June 4, 2017 - Magnifique. Fruits blancs, toujours cette vigueur typique du cru, entre tension et tendreté. Grande complexité, baroque et unique.

June 3, 2017 - 14.0% - Clear, med+ straw / clean, pronounced intensity - ripe pear, lemon wax, honey, orange blossom, gun flint, smoky, ginger, hints of ripe pineapple / dry, med+ racy acidity, med body, pronounced intensity, persistent finish with the pallet of aromas carrying through. Magnificent bottle offering the best that Chenin has to offer.
