June 23, 2018 - I liked this more than most people. It's got an incredible level of detail and layering. Old, slightly funky mushroom notes and red cola and orange flavors. Ripe, weighty, and with a fairly subdued mousse at this stage. I could get lost in the nose here, and while it may not have quite the freshness of a '96 from a couple of months back (and certainly doesn't have P2/P3 freshness), I actually prefer this bottle and where it's at.

June 23, 2018 - HDH auction at Spiaggia; 6/22/2018-6/23/2018 (Chicago, IL): Amber in colour. The nose shows a fair bit of bread, as well as a fairly good amount of fruit. Certainly, at this point, this shows a its age, and it's at the tail end of freshness for me. A bready, ripe, and rich profile, with a nice amount of acidity on the back end. It's not as linear and fresh as I'd like, but this is still a very good champagne. (A little sad it isn't as good as I remembered it being from seven years ago, though that taste came from a recent release from magnum.)

(Dom Perignon Rose) Sappy red fruits on a steely, mineral spine of great detail. Long finish of great complexity. Just goes on and on. The copper color is always enchanting. Very youthful and needs lots of time.
