Community Tasting Notes 3

January 28, 2022 - AP 16 16. PnP. Moderate + yellow. There's a touch of petrol initially, then jellied pears and melons and some faded white floral notes. It makes me think of that compressed fruit fad in fine dining - the textural change is significant but the flavors stay the same. This is noticeably sweet and while it might come off as ponderous in lesser producers, not here. Decant or hold for a long while.

May 12, 2018 - A beautiful wine of energy and grace that made me pause at day's end and reflect here in the high desert under the shade of the pear tree. A nose of ripe pear, peach, lemon and hint of petrol. An engaging and zippy palate that was a perfect partner to sliced salumi, black olives and comte cheese. I immediately pulled up Terry Thiese's PDF of his German Catalog 2017 and read an inspiring note on his long experience with Donnhoff. Transfixed the sun was down before I knew it, I corked the rest of the bottle and while watering the garden I started the grill and made a note to taste side by side with the Donnhoff 2015 Grosse Gewachs of this same Felsenberg vineyard from 2015.

November 27, 2017 - I know people will say I drank this too early, but what can you do when you're new to wine and only have young vintages? (I'm sure the answer is buy wine at auction).

This wine was a mouthful of riesling fruit flavors balanced with zippy acidity. The texture was really nice: full but not syrupy.

Reasons why I need to buy more Donnhoff/German riesling:
-- Tastes great, amazing flavors with bright acidity
-- Pairs well with Asian food
-- Everyone loves it, wine nerds and "normal people" too
