Community Tasting Notes 5

April 18, 2020 - Classic, rustic and savory. Dark fruit, spices, dried rosehip, dried roses, leather and tar. Broad shouldered tannins of juicy texture. A big wine but there's elegance as well. As many 12's approachable but will of course develop further for a decade or more.

July 7, 2017 - This displayed a classic nose of dark cherry, dusty soil, minerals, and roses. On the palate, I found silky textures offset by intense savory minerality and spices, dark wood and inner floral tones. Fine tannin coated the senses, with brisk acidity adding freshness through the long and structured finish, along with lingering notes of dried roses and strawberry.

September 30, 2016 - Piedmont Trip, Day 2- Gigi Rosso, Schiavenza, Cavallotto (Barolo, Piemont, Italy): Nose: The nose is deep and perfumed with violets, red cherries, spice tones, crushed rocks, licorice, red berries, tar, and leather notes. The nose also favors the upper register to go with the perfumed nature of it.

Taste: Medium/full bodied with high acidity and high tannins. There is a robustness to the feel with violets, red cherries, spice tones, crushed rocks, red berries, licorice, and some leather notes. The tannins are extremely youthful and aggressive with the acidity having some real punch to it as well.

Overall: This is a fantastic Barolo. It shows off a ton of youth and will need a good 8+ years before it begins to become mature. Patience should reward though as the raw materials are in place for something great.
