August 5, 2023 - I love Clarendon Hills Grenache !! Like CDP from down under at peak !! I agree with my notes of the past year and a half !!
Perfect cork easily removed after almost a decade and a half in the bottle. Consumed this perfectly balanced wine with friends at dinner. Dark burgundy in color with medium clarity. Well integrated and soft from the first sip. Aromas of black cherry, leather, and vanilla. Silky flavors of intense cherry, raspberry preserves, kirsch, glycerin, and umami with a soft long finish. This age worthy wine is ready for primetime and is drinking well now. This is an age worthy wine that is holding up well. Unfortunately, I have no more bottles of this vintage remaining in my cellar. Great estate fruit handpicked from low-yielding, dry-farmed, 85-year-old vines and gently destemmed before undergoing whole berry fermentation. Wild yeast fermentation was used to increase the retention of the grape's varietal essence and minimize bitter tannin extract. All pressings were returned to the barrel and bottled onsite without fining or filtration. This wine was aged for 18 months in tight-grained French oak barrels, of which 85% were new, and 15% were between one and four years old. A great winemaking effort.

Perfect cork easily removed after almost a decade and a half in the bottle. Consumed over two days, this Grenache was steady over both days and perfectly balanced. Popped and poured this dark burgundy colored Grenache with medium clarity. Fortunately I have acquired a few more bottles of this vintage to sample over the next few years.
