  December 4, 2020 - Not quite the 96 of the other ratings but for $72 at auction this was extraordinary value. A big Wairarapa Pinot fan but didn’t know you could produce classy Bordeaux blends there. Still some black fruit in this with a little browning at the edge of the glass but should last for several more years. Initially rated a 91.
  
  Decanted some to a small bottle and tried a few days later, Tertiary notes stronger but still with fruit and a hint of sweetness. Upgraded to 93 after the double decant - extremely enjoyable.

  January 2, 2019 - I'm happy to agree with Nathan on the score. Today this wine is looking superb. The nose is a little shy of outright fruit but certainly a balance of cedar tobacco and a dark fruit cabernet nose. Its no longer perfumed from the Cab Franc but still very attractive.
  
  The palate is immediately dark cabernet cassis (it takes a while to show it is perfectly ripe) and the most wonderful cigar (I'm not a smoker), cedary oak and wrapped in compatible tannin with balancing acidity. Its one of the best NZ Cabernet blends that you could find and built for this amount of cellaring. Given a little time in the glass the fruit shines and remains fully supported by oak, tannin and acidity. Its drinking superbly (but will still cellar a while) and is a great food wine.
  
  Unfortunately it has been discontinued and I am running out. My word they made a fabulous wine to finish this run of vintages and its such a pity they stopped making this wine, however they admitted it was difficult to get good fruit in all but the best years, and then to sell it at a premium to make production financially viable. I've had the 98, 01 and now this 06 and this is the best I think. A wonderful experience Winslow - many thanks.

  April 9, 2017 - This wine has become my benchmark for all other top quality wines. Great nose and palate. Who would have thought Marlborough grapes could produce a world class Bordeaux. If only they made more.

  October 1, 2016 - The nose is dominated by straw and flax, very little fruit is discernible. Some notes of cedar and tobacco. Very smooth with a good amount of alcohol and tannins. Should continue to cellar well for many years.
