September 14, 2018 - Note, I have only had this varietal in earlier vintages of Robert Foley back in 2009, so my experience with this varietal is limited to other vintages of the same producer.

That said, this was lighter in body and thinner than I remember being in the past. Alcohol at around 12.5%. The wine lacked structure. It had no noticeable finish, zero grip from the tannins, and it did not have much acidity.

Taste wise, very hard to pick up any flavor descriptors, but mainly blackberry/raspberry, herbs, muddy earth. You have to fight hard for these descriptors.

I drank this over two days, so I cannot argue that this wine could have used more time, as it did not improve at all.

I would not waste your time with this wine, especially if you are looking for a Cab/Merlot/Pinot Noir/Malbec alternative, it is simply not worth the price of admission, even to try. If you want something lighter that is easy to drink, go grab yourself a $12-20 Beaujolais, at least it will have some flavor.
