Community Tasting Notes 3

October 16, 2020 - Consistent with previous notes, and improving. One of the finer orange wines I've encountered to date. Also perhaps the most salinity, almost saltwater-like in the persistent finish. No rush to drink but difficult to estimate development. Safe to say great through 2023.

January 26, 2017 - Well now this is interesting, and I know nothing of this vintner or wine. This appears and tastes like a proper "orange wine" but I do not know the vintner's process.

Decanted 30 min, drank over hours and it increasingly revealed itself. Will decant 90-120 next time.

BODY: Medium bodied, cloudy orange towards blood orange in hue.
NOSE is pretty complex: dried apricot, soft balsamic, Bordeaux waxiness, cloves, floral notes, brettanomyces/purist sour ale, powerful orange citrus.
PALATE is closer to acting the part of a soft balanced Flanders Red Ale (sour beer), to my memory like a muted Cuvee de Jacobins Rouge. Dry, orange peel oil, cranberry, echoes of baking spice, with some soft tannins and plenty of acidic lift. Not hugely long or complex but captivating none the less.

This is an outstanding "thinking outside what wine is expected to be" selection - both cerebral and enjoyable. Perhaps not for everyone, not fruit heavy or sweet. Enjoy on its own or with Asian dishes.

    Technical: good+
My enjoyment: very good, buying a couple more
