October 5, 2021 - Dark raspberry, almost like a raspberry liqueur, nicely integrated oak, and a long finish.

August 4, 2021 - Proven again as one of my favorite Turleys, just when I was getting a hair cynical (i.e., all Turleys are alike). Definitely a cut above, great flavors without being too hot. No rush.

July 23, 2021 - The extreme Paso acid is still dominant, overwhelming this typically lighter, fruity Zin. Give this a couple more years.

July 5, 2021 - This tastes like Paso Robles. Ripe bing cherries, black raspberries, ripe (almost over ripe) strawberries, violets, and chocolate covered blueberries, but there’s also meaty/savory notes of black licorice, olives, and game meat. It reminds me a little bit of Syrah. Nice spice and minerals on the decently fresh and acidic finish (especially for Zinfandel).

This had some nice moments, but, at 16.1 % alcohol, you have to be careful (first, not to drink too much at once) about food pairings. The sweet and sour stew wasn’t the right thing, nor was a creamy pasta, but cheddar brats were the perfect match.

I opened this now because I wanted to try it alongside the Hayne, but while the Hayne was drinking well now, I think this one would have been better with about five more years of bottle age. It needed a good hour of air, but even then, I don’t feel like it ever opened up all the way. Compared to the Hayne, this tasted fresher, but I thought the Hayne was a bit more sophisticated and, over all, more pleasant (admittedly, I’ve been having a hard time liking Paso Robles lately).
