Community Tasting Notes 10

February 19, 2022 - February foie (Chicago, IL): A lot funkier than the 2019 Poire Granit, but a very clear expression of apple flavours here. Pretty clean as far as apple ciders like this go. A little bitterness on the finish which works nicely with the sweetness of the apples; overall a little too browned for my taste.

June 13, 2019 - Pretty tasty stuff. Slight browning funk, but generally a really clean and delicious cider. The apple flavours are pretty prominent and there's a slight bitterness on the finish that feels balancing.

January 16, 2019 - Fairly clean for a cider, with a bit of a smoky and a minor bit of funk. A nice touch of sweetness to round this out as well. Fairly complex, but a little more earthy and brown apple-y than I really like. Still, not going to complain about this.

December 26, 2018 - Easygoing and pleasant, and certainly not too complex, but a fairly clean cider with not much funk. There's a bit of browned flavours, but I think that's inescapable in apple cider, and a hint of bitterness on the back end. Just a touch sweet too, which adds to the balance here.

October 15, 2018 - This is a lovely cider, with a deep nose of fresh apple, pure and simple. Slight petillance, dry, with a very slightly, pleasantly bitter finish. The palate is light-bodied, simple and fresh, like the nose: just pure, crisp apple fruit, laid bare for all to see. Having grown up in St-Hilaire, Quebec, where the apple harvest is an autumnal rite, this cider brings me right back to childhood as surely and swiftly as the Proustian Madeleine.
