June 11, 2021 - I agree very much with “RockinCabs” review
( The wine was decanted for 2 hours )

SIGHT: Wine is deep purple but has reflections of ruby with a high level of staining on the glass.

NOSE: Right away you are greeted with powerful aromatics of chocolatey oak, Dark cherries, chocolate covered black plums, and ripe blackberries. Underneath you find that Cab Franc fruit purity adding clarity to the ripe Napa fruit with some herbal notes and 100% agree with terra-cotta pot dust I said those exact words as I smelled the wine.

TASTE: This wine is drinking phenomenally well Dalla Valle themself’s states this was a softer vintage and it shows with how creamy and silky the tannins are in this wine just makes you wanna take another sip even though it’s 14.2%. However, despite being plush it still has very good focus and is well put together the Cab Franc freshness keeps the fruit pure and just under being over extracted with how soft the wine is allowing the acid to stay right in the middle as well. Dark red fruits, chocolate, Smokiness, and a distinct minerality of terra-cotta pot dust.

    OVERALL:
Dalla Valle is a firm believer in low yields, which are on average 1.5 tons per acre!! Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats. Malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak and the wines are aged in an average of 70% new, French oak barrels. This was a delightful vintage 2 hours decant was all this wine needed it’s just easy and yummy to drink like Quintessa without being to jammy like Quintessa can be for example. Sure it’s a little over-priced but at least I felt the wine was full-bodied well put together and worth it 7 years age helps a bit too it’s definitely gonna hold it’s own. Dalla Valle is well made, a easy drinking vintage some people might want a little more structure while others are gonna love how I hate to say it “Smooth” it is definitely a crowd pleaser won’t be disappointed at all.

June 6, 2021 - With 30 minutes in the decanter, the 2014 Dalla Valle opens nicely, showing off a raspberry, oak, earthen nose. This is labeled at 14.2 but it’s not really well-integrated and ends up distracting from an otherwise nice nose.

June 6, 2021 - A beautiful representation of the Dalla Valle terroir that is showing really well now. Black Cherry, red berries, baking spice, creamy texture and mid-weight palate. Great clarity here and nice teracotta dust, olive and herb notes around the red fruit core. A really enjoyable wine that is surprisingly accessible now.

November 6, 2020 - Another stellar wine from Dalla Valle, drinking next to the 2016 you know the style, yet such a different wine, much more approachable today with slight balsamic notes, along with black pepper, olive tapenade, fresh herbs, savory palate cherry compote, fresh berry currents and crushed violets. The finish is long and lingering. This is drinking wonderfully now but don't worry this certainly has a wonderful life ahead.
