January 23, 2024 - Opened and initially tasted of plum and was very tightly acidic - it tasted very young and almost a bit green. Colour distinctly deep purple. Decanted for 2-3 hrs and it then surprised with its cool elegance. Still tight and savoury but more blueberries and smoother (one person thought it was left bank bdx). Beautifully balanced and supremely sophisticated. Great but you could probably wait another 5-10 years to open it.
Grand vin. 95+ pts
December 17, 2022 - I am having a second bottle of this. I refer to prior note. It’s a fabulous bottle of wine. I think everyone should try a great Cornas at least once. They are not cheap but not crazy expensive either. You can have one of the world’s great Syrahs for quite a fair price. This vintage is a great example. Try it.
October 3, 2022 - Judgement of Singapore - "Other Varieties" (Singapore): This showed terribly in the tasting. Opened around 2 hours before tasting with no decant. Just a wall of tannin. If opening, be sure to give it a lengthy decant.
I've scored it based on my experience on the night but I know potential is much higher.
September 11, 2022 - Opened for 3 hours. Color is deep garnet/purple. On the nose: Plum cassis, pepper, violets and iron/blood. On the palate: Violets, plum, cassis, pepper, blood, forest floor and just touch of vanilla. Soft tannins, silky mouthfeel. This is a sensuous beast. Magnificent wine. Has decades of life. If you can be patient wait 5 - 10 years but it’s a joy even now.
June 3, 2022 - Her Majesty's 70th Jubilee Lunch (London): This was tight but opened rather quickly to show earthy flower bed (very violet) on the nose. Palate tightly wound yielded blackberry and fresh cut flowers. Some hints of earthy loam. Very ethereal and almost felt I was back in Burgundy. Try again in 5 years 94/100 for now with strong upside.
February 28, 2022 - Massive wine. Dark, inky color. Notes of asphalt, tar, stones. Dark and compact, tugged in. Needs 10 years more in the cellar, but there is potential for Grand Vin here. Clape tasting chez Lillelund.
February 28, 2022 - First impression: Massive, dense, inky. The nose is pure iron and blood, true blooded Cornas. More friendly in the mouth, than I would have guessed, a very pure fruit here. Opens with air - still, much too young. Maybe even more so on day 2, quite a strict wine, vertical, serious. Stay away for ten years at least.
November 24, 2021 - Stinky, powerful and massive, interesting. Super complex. As Joe notes, it smell awesome out of the gate. And linear and clear on the palate.
