Community Tasting Notes 6

December 24, 2023 - I've left it nearly 4 years since I last opened a bottle. CT rec drinking date is from 2024, which is an unusually long wait for a medium rank C-R from a cooler year. But I think it is well informed. I waited nearly that long.... I did decant several hours in advance in compensation.

Clearly we now have a wine much more open for business than before, the previously intense dark purple has thinned out a bit and shows a little bricking. We have a lot more nose, much more developed and complex. But the palate packs a very powerful acidity, which I found a bit obtrusive to start with as I ate it with a roast ham hot meal.

My guest thought it was wonderful.

But I think this can continue to improve and balance itself for some time yet. I will wait some time before opening another one.

October 1, 2021 - my wife opened the bottle for a glass in the evening : not recommended : it’s a wine to share ;)

December 13, 2020 - 100 % Shiraz exceptionally smooth, rich, peppery; needs time cellaring, now at the beginning of the drinking window

March 28, 2020 - Belle Côte-rôtie sur des tanins fins, une grande acidité qui lui permet de bien se marier à la table. Mérite de se garder encore quelques années.

January 28, 2020 - As my co-drinker said, doesn't really taste of anything at the moment. Is closed up in the notorious Cote Rotie dumb period. Did start to open out a bit on day four. So probably needs at least another 2 years.

From what we could gather from this closed-up wine, this is a bit lighter than the usual Burgaud blockbuster. Only 12.5% alcohol, which is unfortunately all too rare these days. At the moment we only get a bit of rather basic syrah pepper and tar. But I could detect the tight fruit acids that should burst out later, and a mildly tannic backbone. Some nice aromas coming out by day 4, so patience needed with this one. My guess is it has the balance and structure to come out nice in the end.
