Community Tasting Notes 5

September 10, 2020 - Prior bottle was almost nine months ago and my notes were fairly consistent. Red cherry, earth and spices on a nose that has gotten a touch softer and slightly less aromatic. Light of medium bodied with red cherry upfront. Mid-body retains some tartness and still shows good depth (but not as much as previously) and only some slight hints now of red raspberry. Acidity and tart notes on the backside (tart red cherry and cranberry) provide structure. Still drinking nicely at present, but the trend is clear: less mid-body density and complexity and increasing prominence of tart qualities on the backside. This is a step ahead of the Clone 90, but a step behind the Clone 667 and should be drunk soon.

January 20, 2020 - Prior bottle was almost exactly 10 months ago and this wine remains in a good spot. Red cherry, earth, floral and spices notes on the nose. Nearly medium bodied with tart red cherry upfront. Shows more roundness through the mid-body and adding some red raspberry hints. Tart red cherry, dry cranberry and spices notes on the back and through the finish. Not quite as pretty as my prior bottle, but I suspect a lot of that is due to cooler opening temperature. Next bottle for me might be as soon as September 2020.

March 23, 2019 - Prior bottle was almost exactly a year ago and the wine has improved in that time. Nose remains red cherry and raspberry, with background notes of earth and floral qualities. Medium bodied with red cherry, backed with red raspberry upfront. Mid-body continues to add density and roundness and the backside still consists of tart red cherry and cranberry. What set this wine apart from the Clone 667 from last night was additional mid-body density, slightly better defined complexity, better integration on backside and into the finish and slightly more complete overall bottle. The mix of fruit, tartness and spice is just a touch prettier here. Given how well this is showing at present, I may be tempted to try my next bottle as soon as Q4 2019.

March 28, 2018 - First from bottle, previously tasted 16 months ago at the winery and the wine has evolved as I'd hoped. Red cherry and raspberry on the nose, along with floral and earth notes. Medium bodied (12.9% ABV) with red raspberry upfront, backed with red cherry. Gains depth through the middle and especially through the far back where it also brings in a mix of acidity and tannin based structure that blends well with tart cherry and cranberry. The complexity and overall fruit profile is fairly similar, but the wine has broadened, especially through the back side and the integration to the finish has also improved. Should continue to improve along these lines over the next year or so. My next bottle will be late 2018/early 2019.

November 18, 2016 - Tasted at the winery. Raspberry, floral and earthy notes on the nose. Medium bodied with red raspberry upfront, adding in red cherry and then tart red cherry and cranberry in the background. Nearly seamless transition from mid-body to finish as the acidity and tart notes serve to both smooth out the more bright, upfront fruit (adding depth) and providing overall balance. As well as this wine is showing right now, based on my experiences with the 2012, there's even more future potential. I see this wine gaining depth, complexity and overall integration with a bit more time. I'll probably try my first from bottle in late summer/early fall 2017.
