March 27, 2023 - A private dinner (Restaurant Schwarzer Adler *, Oberbergen, Germany): Rich amber colour; full-blown mature botrytis nose, alpine herbs and virginia tobacco, orange and honey, dried apricot, flowers and passion fruit; the palate is intense and very sweet, hugely powerful and concentrated, oily and rich, flavours of green apple and sweet cinnamon, piercing acidity; long and lifted, expansive finish. Nearly immortal. Retasted after four days in the fridge it comes across as more lively and youthful, floral and ethereal than before, without any detriment to its essential character. This is one of those wines that has the acidity, sweetness and balance to last a century.

January 20, 2020 - Wine Dojo - January 2020 - What a Blinder?!? At Vinology (Vinology, Houston, Tx): A: Dark amber
N: Honey, beeswax, hazelnut, blue cheese, orange marmalade, dried citrus, sage, dried pear and rye.
P: Dry, medium plus acid, 10% abv (very high for an Eszencia), pronounced intensity and long finish
C: Balance between sugar and acid....though my personal preference is for more acid. Length and intensity are great contributors to quality and the diverse flavour clusters indicate great complexity in the wine, Outstanding wine.
    Sufficient acid to continue ageing.

Went to Tokaj years back. It was a good trip but I couldn't find a bottle of eszencia for sale anywhere. Couldn't find one back in Budapest until I went to the airport and there it was.

October 23, 2017 - Took the last bit home - it's been in the fridge for nearly a week. Deep notes of dried apricots and a bit of molasses. Not cloying at all - a nice vibrancy and complexity. Nice spice, maybe a bit of chili pepper, honey, deep florals, maybe a touch of fig. Really superb on the palate. Wow. This is mouth filing but not a bit heavy. Now we get some quince and persimmon to go along with the apricot, fig. sweet florals, spice and chili pepper. The finish shows more of the acid so the Quince and Persimmon come out more in a long, broad and spicy finish. Really thrilling stuff. Nose - 5-5.5/6, Palate - 6/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5-2/2 = 18-19/20.

January 2, 2017 - Ambra. Naso didascalico nelle note di miele millefiori, mela cotogna, iodio, zafferano, pesca sciroppata, sensazioni balsamiche, quasi resinose. Bocca dolcissima ma equilibrata grazie alla pazzesca acidità.

December 24, 2016 - 2016 Family Xmas; 12/24/2016-12/25/2016 (Alicante): Sincerely speaking I didn't want to overestimate this one cause it's an Eszencia but it is superb. Complexity in a complete harmony, that's the concept.
Concentrated tokaji aromas (baked apple, raisins or penicillin) those don't eplipse that terrific palate where this elixir showed its real characteristics.
Density to the limit. Long seconds of pure pleasure. Balanced acidity. Eternal sweetness. Endless aftertaste. A multilayered hungarian wine. This mouth really worths the score. This bottle was born for a relaxed thinking.
Matching an extraordinary panattone tradizionale. Merry Xmas!

¡Feliz Navidad!
