May 28, 2023 - Super smooth and dark, aged perfectly. Balanced dark fruits with just a hint of acidity and that classic Columbia Valley graphite. Not near as heavy as expected, but still absolutely works. Fantastic wine.

September 28, 2022 - Interesting looking back at my notes from 2019. Wouldn’t change much. V4 has only matured, softened and released. Still muscular but quicker to open and more layered. Surprising fruit, bright and dark, graphite, and a monster finish. My last bottle - sniff, sniff.

December 31, 2020 - I struggle to justify the price point for this bottle, as it is significantly more expensive than other Bookwalter offerings but doesn't drink any better. For the money, go with Conflict or Suspense at half the price. In terms of experience, there were some nice aspects to the wine - mostly in the bouquet, which had black and red fruits as well as some graphite. The finish was shorter than I expected and the flavor profile was fairly one dimensional.

September 2, 2019 - I've always loved Bookwalter, but have been hitting Old World wines recently and enjoying their nuances. There's nothing nuanced about Volume 4, but it's delicious, gorgeous and enjoyable. Tons of fruit, granite and cedar in the nose, and huge in the midpalate with dark fruit, roasted meat and a hint of eucalyptus. Finishes for a good while. Could lay down longer, but perfectly drinkable at 5 yrs old. Enjoy with a steak, burger or by itself.
