December 4, 2020 - Beautiful floral bouquet. Nice tannins with some grip which provide structure. Good acidity. Pronounced flavors of blackberry and bing cherry. Medium+ finish. Even better on night 2.
November 9, 2020 - Really quite good, but I do now clearly believe it has plateaued, and probably at risk from dropping off. Drink remaining bottles in cellar within next 6-12 months.
May 31, 2020 - Pretty darn good. Big fan of the Mailbox merlot. This couldn't have been more of a classic merlot. And if you think about it, some really solid merlots come off Spring Mountain. My question is whether there is any more life in cellar left for the few more bottles we have. I don't see it improving, and could actually see it starting to drop off.
February 15, 2020 - Powerful - decanted 1 hour - better still. Order more
May 11, 2019 - This wine is entering nits sweet spot. Bright raspberry, strawberries, plums and roses on the nose. The palate has a nice frame of acid and tannins with dark red fruits trying to shine through but not quite there yet. After two hours of airs it fills out nicely and provides a pretty long finish. This wine will continue to age and evolve gracefully for the next 5 years.
June 23, 2018 - Opened the prior night and drank half the bottle after opening 6 others, so no real notes or memory of the initial profile. Corked and re-tasted The following evening. Bordeaux-like nose that seems more like an aged cab or blend than a solid Merlot. Hint of green notes front to mid palette; dry and dusty mouth feel coats the pallet with dark red fruit flavors. Again, this really seems more like a Cabernet than a Merlot. Much better than prior tastings, this obviously works well with the long decant and I believe is good through 2022
January 5, 2018 - Was expecting a little more for the price. Decent tannin structure and red fruit, but lacking complexity
November 5, 2017 - I love the smell and initial flavor of this wine. Super Smokey bbq nose, blends nicely with blueberry notes. The initial palate has similar profile. But there is no depth to the palate. It fades away quickly and you are left feeling there is just no staying power at all.
May 17, 2017 - Packed Pomerol dead-ringer--dry, structured, surrendering only slightly on the finish, which has the kind of extraction and flavor that many would identify as the holy grail. This needs 3-5 years, and will last for a decade, probably more.
