September 28, 2019 - This is a spectacular white. Some residual sugar but loads of white peach, smoke, candied almonds and a long finished. No need to wait. Drink up! A red wine drinkers white.
September 7, 2019 - Another great bottle, PNP at Roger & Kimberley's with a lovely dinner; outstanding & ready to drink
August 4, 2019 - Paired with grilled salmon, this was perfect. In the past, this wine seemed very temperature sensitive. Not great if too cold, etc. Tonight it was singing at all temperatures. A little darker than in past vintages, a bit more body. We and our dinner guests loved it.
August 4, 2019 - Floral, quite sweet palate. Not a typical condreu. Lacks a little balance - acholhol not fully integrated- wonder if this will soften
July 27, 2019 - Popped and poured. This is a light yellow wine. The nose is very fragrant; I get apricots, spring flowers, an oak-driven vanilla or marshmallow note, a touch of smoke, and a slight bit of lemon. In the mouth, this is a lush and mid-weight wine, with a slight sweetness and aspects of fresh pear pulling through. The finish is also slightly sweet, with some lingering honeycomb elements. Overall, this is a rich and expressive wine. I do find it a bit overdone and not really my style (after having a few of these from several vintages, I think it is time for me to move on). 90 points.
June 8, 2019 - Lisa's Big Birthday with Very Good Wine (Riverwoods, IL): Tasted double blind. Tropical, rich and unctuous with enough brightness, energy and acidity most notably on its long finish. I went directly to Condrieu for this.
June 8, 2019 - Delicious, almost unctuous like white wine with notes of apricot, candied lemon and a hint of citrus on the finish. This Northern Rhône wine is absolutely delicious. Massive full mouth feel makes this a very enjoyable wine for all seasons.
June 1, 2019 - I see that this is a special wine, a special Viognier and that the high praises are deserved. But this full-bodied, low-acid and very perfumed style of Viogniers in general are just not my favorite. So don't get my 93 points wrong, this is definitely a brilliant Viognier. Viognier lovers might rate this much higher. I guess that this might pair well with Asian food.
TN: Walking through a field of fresh flowers or into a room with fresh washed laundry. Additionally some terroir aromas with a nice minerality providing somewhat of a lift. Very soft, highly intense, not enough acidity for my tast but in no way cloying. Overall quite harmonious and long.
Decanting: To my surprise, this needed time to open up. One hour in the decanter seems to be right.
May 26, 2019 - A Few Wines with BBQ (Chez Whitehead - Northbrook IL): Small glass, brief note. Stone fruit, candied lemon peel and summer flowers galore with ginger hints. Intense concentration with enough brightness and length to make this so exciting. Best now through 2023.
May 18, 2019 - Opened last night. Gorgeous. Medium yellow with fat legs. The nose is wondrous, filled with lovely, forward yet delicate fruit of honeysuckle, cream and creme brûlée. Full, rich fruit bordering on fat but not over the line. In fact, pretty good delineation of fruit and acid, with a nice tang on the end and a finish that lingers long. 5-14-18-9: 96/100.
