April 2, 2020 - Deep, and dark with flavors of blackberries, dark chocolate, licorice, cola, tobacco and black cherry. Thick and rich in the mouth with firm tannins and and low acidity.

    Need more time to develop.

September 23, 2019 - A big overextracted wine with zero personality. That being said, has very little Veeder character. If this wine was put in a bottle that said California, St Helena, or Napa Valley I'd have nothing to fight that claim. Lots of blackberry jam and some vanilla up front. And jammy is the right descriptor. A rather Wagnerian wine, reminds me more of Caymus than a Veeder AVA specific wine (see my Progeny notes for what a REAL Veeder wine is). This would do well at a party where people just wanted to experience cab on the jammy and sweet side. And I really don't feel this is going to get any better in bottle because I feel these are likely to be barrel rejects from Veeder. Bad QPR. Drink now or serve at your next party and cut your losses.

March 1, 2019 - Over-extracted and heavily oaked. No pleasure in this one!

November 18, 2018 - I had no notes and no purchase history of this wine so I had no idea what to expect. To be fair I drank over two nights. The first night it followed a 2006 Arkenstone Obsidian and the second night it followed a 2004 Fantesca Cab. Those aren’t really in the same strata as this wine, but in each case I’d rather have a 375 of either of those than a 750 of this. The Watermark is a heavily extracted juice bomb with oodles of cassis that would make the Wagner family proud. The mouthfeel of this wine is almost like an Amarone but with cab notes.

This doesn’t give me the sense of mountain fruit, so I wonder what the yield and brix looked like at picking. This wine is very ripe, with notable cooperage (big vanilla) at the late palate and early to mid finish. Perhaps it will lean out with age. Try again in 2-3 years.
