July 11, 2019 - Still showing too much acidity of the vintage, good density though.

October 12, 2016 - Actually quite enjoyed this nose which featured pronounced cigar tobacco leaf, damp leather, drying plum fruit, and dusty soil. Traces of brett. Not much generosity of fruit on the palate with massive and super dry tannin. Clipped, short, and dry finish. Austere in the mouth. Interesting to try but not particularly complex or engaging. How this strip of vineyard is sandwiched between La Tâche and Romanée-Conti and yields something so odd is still bizarre to this Vosne enthusiast. Enjoyed drinking it, but a solid meh if critical.

November 27, 2015 - A huge wine. Big acidity and tannins. Iodine notes on the finish. Tasted over 3 nights and it never softened. Not great.

July 28, 2014 - A somewhat disappointing bottle; seems there is not sufficient fruit here; a bit dry and short. Similar to the 2001 Grande Rue that has also been disappointing.

December 13, 2013 - The 1996 La Grande Rue at this point has a nice bouquet and is dark and young in the glass with no bricking. The main impression on the palate is first freshness and intensity, then a fairly long finish with considerable unresolved tannins still prickling the cheek, and no great complexity. If the tannins resolve fully and the bouquet opens up, then it might merit a 93-94 in about 5 years. It seems to have the structure to hold with pleasure for another decade at least. If you only have one bottle, I advise waiting about 5 years.
