February 3, 2018 - Very youthful and fresh. Crystal clear. Cool tones. Gorgeous.
January 26, 2018 - Fabulous. Perhaps the greatest old kabinett I’ve had. The color of water (just the slightest hint of yellow). Wonderfully vibrant, Smokey, minerals, touch of wild herbs, long long finish. A wine you want to keep drinking and drinking. How does he do it!
October 5, 2017 - Light, bright, delicate but nuanced. Discrete but worth pursuing. This is understated but very poised and elegant. Lovely ****
January 31, 2015 - Rieslingfeier 2015 Main Event (The Wythe Hotel, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY): Muted note - some citrus and minerals. Beautiful and light on the palate with lime, minerals, flowers. Just stunning. Great flavor without weight. Nose - ?/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17/20. (Extrapolating w/o the nose and then a slight penalty.)
May 28, 2014 - Lime. Has sort of a rich almost creamy texture to it.
February 22, 2014 - Dinner with Egon Müller IV at Daniel (New York, NY): Everything about this wine was super fresh. The color is bright-golden and brilliant. On the nose and pallet the wine offers so much. Jotting flavors down as they flew into my mind: gooseberry glycerin, seaweed candy, coral tide, crustacean carapace minerality. Drinking this wine is like inhaling the aromas at the waters edge on a coral atoll, the aromatic expression lifts the wine as is traverses the pallet with static electricity and weightless mouth-filling finesse. As the wine glides over the tongue is adds sweet mint and citrus mist to the harmonic marine mix. The length of this wine is impressive and I can easily say this is the best Kabinett I have ever come across.
November 26, 2011 - A little corked. However, this didn't impact the wine quality otherwise. Lime / citrus / minerality. Light as air. Very concentrated and elegant Saar- riesling.
August 9, 2009 - Dinner with Megan and friends. (Palo Alto, CA): Cork was turning freely, and soaked through. Clearly oxidized. ~$40
December 14, 2008 - Lime drops, beeswax, petrol and a wisp of honey drunk from a slate goblet. Holding up beautifully with lovely mineral/ acid spine. Disappeared far too quickly though
November 15, 1991 - At Singer & Foy survey of 1990 German wines. Foamy; pale. OK nose; light, slightly chalky. Flavor is thin and rather dull and sour. Least favorite of four wines tasted so far. 4-6-9-3: 72/100.
