Community Tasting Notes 5

December 2, 2018 - Pop and pour, this wine did need some time in to open up.

+ Nose - dried herbs, dried leather, forest floor, earthy
+ Taste - dried red fruits, laurel, coffee, earth
+ Finish - spicy, a bit too short, dry

Again, this is what old BDX should taste like ... not much left in this 1996, so drink up !

July 12, 2016 - Delicious. Complex with some mineral.

July 25, 2014 - Clear Brick color without any hint of brown. Lovely nose. Palate closed somewhat on tasting immediately upon opening with tannin dominating the fruit. Starts to soften and integrate with air after 30 mins to a more luscious and generous style. Great with food. Still some years ahead for this wine even though it may have peaked. Update 3 days later-last of bottle- whilst losing some fruit is beautifully integrated and showing no real signs of oxidization- all good signs for a long life ahead.

November 6, 2011 - Drunk over 24 hours. Clear brick colour. Early tannic dominance with dusty, woody, earthy notes which eased over 4 hours. Developed sweet, plummy fruit with tobacco, liquorice, cedar & spicy notes. Smoothed out to a more integrated wine overnight in a classic Bordeaux style, but still with a strong tannin backbone. A very robust wine but still quite refined. Either this has many years more to develop or perhaps it will never fully integrate. Either way I look forward to drinking the other 1/2 dozen over the next few years.

March 1, 2005 - Surprisingly sweet, full fruity round wine, with powerful scent and taste of cedar, not quite succesfully integrated. A bit like a Californian fantasy of claret. 88P.
