April 10, 2021 - Well this has really matured in the last 18 months.
Drinking spot on now.
Deep dark fruit with a hint of black cherry. Mid pallet brings black plum sweetness that coats the mouth.
Finish lingers a bit but tappers off fast.
Fun tasty wine. lots going on here, great acidity level and complexity is good enough that I could review each sip with new tastes.
We opened for 1.5 hrs, no decant and no sentiment.
No sign of age at all, so more change
To come for those that wait????
October 17, 2020 - PnP. Nose shows off sweet blackberry, black licorice, wood spice, cocoa powder, crushed black plum, pipe tobacco and pencil lead. Palate has smoke and ash, ripe dense and chewy dark fruit, mocha. Silky and inky and pretty tasty. Has plenty of years ahead of it. 92-93 points.
June 21, 2020 - Pretty much my same thoughts from my first bottle to my last bottle....Big one! Black cherry, cassis, spices. Complex and multi-level. A decant or more aging is suggested.
March 17, 2020 - Jammy. Full body. Spicy peppery.
March 13, 2020 - Decanted for about an hour and this was signing. Still very young, but this had the most expressive nose of black fruits and spice. Licorice, cola, vanilla weaved in between the massive black and blue berry flavors. Great acidity and moderate tannin added some refined edginess. Paired beautifully with a filet but to be honest I drank most of it on its own, as it was too good to share the spot light. I can't wait to open my 12s and 13s which are still in storage. I wish i had more of this 14...
December 5, 2019 - Flawed
November 30, 2019 - Winebar [4 Whites, 8 Reds, & 7 *shared* bottles] from 11/29/19 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): “100% hand-picked C.S. (Oct ’14) sourced from multiple locations: Valley Floor & Mountain AVAs; Vinification: 10-day fermentation, FR oak barrels; 15.5% ABV; Bob Foley, Winemaker; 900 cases bottled May ’16 @ $92 sugg retail.”
N: VANILLA atop RIPE, POSS jammy berries with notes of pyrazines? Intensity lurking
P: MF body; RNDISH entry with very NICE, ALMOST swtish frt (approaching threshold R.S.?) met by an astringent pucker which somewhat resolves by the LONG, balanced finish with a bitter/swtness to the dusty tannins. Approachable now with food, but DESERVES through '20 & should make its 10th. Somehow a bit flat/flabby on the finish? My VG+/EXC-; 94+ pts WA (12/30/16). [Check with this vendor if interested in their very COMPETITIVE price, & DO be aware of some fairly skewed pricing.]
November 19, 2019 - Four hour decant. Very deep dark magenta color. Black cherry, menthol, sweet vanilla and rose petals on the nose. Brambly palate, but with soft acidity. Firm, full tannins on the medium long finish. Very good Napa Cab, although a touch uninspired (boring).
November 3, 2019 - I liked it a little but was expecting so much more from the reviews and price. I even decanted it for about an hour...not much there. I probably wouldn't spend this kind of money on this one again.
July 19, 2019 - Bottle 2 of 4 Robert Foley Sip 'n Snack Day. Dark purplish red with light brownish-rose rim. Attractive. Dark, red berries, a fresh fruit pie, a touch savory, on the nose. A hint of Bronx pepperoni pizza on the nose made me all warm 'n fuzzy. Fully blossomed, dark fruit on the palate. Sweet chocolate. Salacious and bodacious, yet manageable, tannins. Broad shoulders. Balance of acidity and alcohol apparent after 4+ hours breathing in decanter. Long, delicious finish. Definitely can lay down. Luscious fruit. She is the ultra-fun, happy to play, luscious gal with gusto. No point introducing to the family as Dad would be tempted. She fought well against the spicy Thai noodle.
