March 31, 2019 - Provenance is key, especially important for mature Champagnes. This bottle of Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill 1985 is in an exceptional condition, fresh aromas and sharp acidity, fresher than some 2002 vintage Champagnes. This 1985 Sir Winston Churchill is a classic Pol Roger Cuvée from a great vintage. Powerful autolytic brioche note, potent, very full bodied with bruised Apple and smokey minerals. Sharp acidity and incredible punch. Gorgeous finish. Champagne 1985 appears to be superior to 1982 and 1988. (96/100)

    From magnum.
Fully mature but still fresh. Dried orchard fruit and apricots. Toffee, chocolate, cream, honey and subtle spice. Impeccable depth.
Extremely concentrated rich and generous fruit. Of course it is in the dry fruit range. But the balance, elegance and fullness. The backbone of acidity. Complex ripe orchard fruit and pineapple, dark chocolate and lovely long toasty finish that goes on and on.
    A superb bottle.

March 3, 2018 - La Paulée de San Francisco - Gala Dinner (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Pie and powerful, very mature but certainly age appropriate degree of oxidation. Very concentrated, very long.

March 3, 2018 - La Paulée de SF Gala Dinner (Fairmont Hotel, SF CA): Kick off to the La Paulee gala dinner. Gorgeous aged Champagne here. Broad and expansive palate with mature baked apple and loads of yeasty toast. A fine bead and still energetic.

(Pol Roger Cuvée Winston Churchill) Very evolved, mature, organic nose. Very correct palate, balanced, creamy palate with great finesse. Still has some pure, honeyed white fruits. Lovely freshness, but evolving with great style. Ready now but should drink for a further five to ten years without difficulty. Beautiful.

(Pol Roger Cuvee Winston Churchill) This was a grand bottle of Champagne. Nougat, bread, grapefruit, cinnamon were what I remember on the nose. The palate had extraordinary vinosity and a wide spectrum of flavors. Tremendous complexity and integration along with tactile grip on the finish. Hitting on all cylinders but I see no reason this would not go another twenty years.
