April 2, 2023 - Vertical of D&R Fred and Dora's Vineyard Petite Sirah. The 15 is the only wine they did extended maceration on. The tannins and aromas were quite different from the rest.

Sharpie market (like, the kind you weren't allowed to smell as a kid), white pepper, new leather, blood, blackberries and rubber. Overall a high intensity of aromas here. The palate adds apricots and pluots and a hint of barnyard right at the end. Much more spice on the nose than on the palate. Overall it feels balanced and quite old world in style. I've never had a Durif from France but I imagine a good one tastes like this.

Medium + body, medium lingering trannin and medium acid. I think this is at peak, and it should be drank now.

NOSE: while decanting, this gave-off strong scent of coffee, with some red fruit in the background. From the glass, this was high-toned with some aged, fruit leather, aromas. Oak noticeable, too. Quite pleasant, and I do like that it has that juicy high-toned element that I often notice in Petite Sirah that has some age on it.

    BODY: medium bodied.

TASTE: first flavor is oak; dark-fruited; medium+ to high acidity; 13.5% alc.; not fiercely tannic, but some are still present; slight oxidized note on Day 2. Overall, for a P.S., this is dialed-back considerably, but still retains expected varietal character. Drinkable and probably in its prime window, as I fear the oak is going to win-out over the fruit in the end.

May 11, 2020 - Still very rustic with loads of tannins and dark fruits. Has improved with bottle age.

December 29, 2018 - If you drink a lot of Petite Sirah, this comes across as well mannered. It’s still a little wild, but it does not overwhelm the senses. Ripe plum fruit forms the core, and is backed up by bramble and herbal aromas and a note of pine needle. It shows more of the rustic, wild side on the palate, with chalky tannins. The plum fruit picked up some ripe blackberry notes that hold center stage, keeping the tannins at bay. This is a notably powerful wine for Dirty & Rowdy, but again, within the genre, it’s on the “elegant” end of the scale.
