Community Tasting Notes 1

April 21, 2007 - (14%abv). On opening, a fairly deep colour, showing some maturity. Nose rather dominated by dustiness and alcohol; with the palate rather harsh. This settles after an hour to reveal a fairly complex wine but not a lot of depth. Notes of cranberry, oak, smoke on the nose. The palate is now full but gentler and shows more savioury characteristics. Nice minty kick to the finish. Surprsisngly new worldy for a cool climate South African, but time in the glass gives it a more old world feel. I'd say give it a coyple more years. It's got the fruit.
