January 6, 2021 - This wine is not austere...it is very approachable, soft with a bit of muscle. In fact, I wish it were more firm. Classic. Elegant. Drinks well on it's own, would not hold up to a strong cheese. This would be be the perfect flavour profile to accompany a rare roast beef...if only it had more acid and tannins. I found it exceptionally balanced - dark cherry, gradually, gradually morphing into orange peel and mushroom. I admit, I like my reds to fight back a little. This wine is a standout for balance and finesse, tamed a touch for sake of approachability.

Needs more by way of herb...funny how these things get more tertiary after a good joint!

December 5, 2019 - What I love about this bottle is that it’s stylistically correct and yet, very obviously Italian. I thought this was loaded with cassis and tobacco with a sort of “dustiness” that I find in the better, more authentic Super Tuscan wines. Definitely on the more rustic end of the spectrum. Fantastic structure for being the Rosso. I can only imagine how well the 2015 Superiore will be when I finally get around to pulling the cork in one of the two sleeping in my cellar. These Rossos are just fine to drink now but will age well for the next five years.

August 12, 2018 - Initially tight, austere and brutally tannic, this opened up after about an hour and started to offer a nice amount of tangy plum, blackberry and dark currant fruit, with very good depth and intensity. Definitely shows the ripeness of the vintage. The slightly compact finish features subtle notes of spice, earth and mineral, but is noticeably oaky and tannic. Clearly well-made, this could almost be mistaken for its big brother - the Superiore - which costs almost three times as much. Just needs time to unwind and come together. Another 3-4 years in the cellar should do wonders for this.
