Community Tasting Notes 6

February 13, 2024 - Mainly red fruit, also black cherries, spices (gloves, pepper), Les Hautes Maizières is the most round, powerful and hedonistic of his Villages wines compared to the others (La Combe Brûlée, la Montagne and Les Hauts de Beaux Monts). Still young, but so good.

December 16, 2023 - Savoury, in fact very dry with piercing acidity and initially firm tannins which softened out on the mid-palate. I detected black cherry laced with a little aniseed. There was a hint of Brett and VA but not as noticeable or detrimental as previous bottles. The balance was good, too, and as it opened out developed pleasing complexity, improving markedly revealing delicious notes of black chocolate and a fine length of finish. It grew on me, and I enjoyed it, but certainly not worth the money. CHP 88pts

October 19, 2023 - Savoury with briar fruits and a lick of cocoa, yet essentially gamey and Bretty. Quite acidic, I detected volatility and although complex with a reasonable length of finish this was certainly on the way down and needs drinking up. CHP 87 pts

January 13, 2023 - Needed an hour in the glass to unfold: Mainly red fruit (beside others strawberries), smoky elements, spices (white pepper, cinnamon, cloves), ripe tannins, still a quite high acidity, superb density and length. Tremendous village wine, at the beginning of its drinking window. Excellent and more to come.

October 11, 2022 - More on the black fruit side, this was fresh and structured with super ripe tannins. In spite of the acidity the wine develops richness and length, building up into a tremendous crescendo. It is very good now, and dare I say it, will be even better in a few years’ time. Super stuff.
